On 16 September 1998, MSG Carmen M. Gamble, while assigned to the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC), was the first Active Guard Reserve (AGR) soldier to be inducted into the FORSCOM Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC). MSG Gamble was reassigned to the Army Reserve Personnel Command (AR-PERSCOM), known today as The Human Resources Command Saint Louis (HRC-STL) on 5 July 2000. MSG Gamble recommended to the AR-PERSCOM Commander, COL W. Bruce Pittman and the AR-PERSCOM Command Sergeant Major, CSM Ray Hemingway to have the SAMC established at AR-PERSCOM. COL Pittman and CSM Hemingway agreed that AR-PERSCOM should have all the same programs and recognition devices that other Army units had. Once such program is the SAMC. The Command was given the approval from U.S Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Command Sergeant Major, CSM Andrew McFlower to establish it’s own Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) / Dr. Mary E. Walker (DRMEW) selection boards. The Command was also authorized to make appropriate changes to the certificates, medallions, membership cards, and FORSCOM Regulations 215-5 and 215-7. The regulations were written and the AR-PERSCOM SAMC was born. The first AR-PERSCOM Sergeant Audie Murphy board /Dr. Mary E. Walker board was held in February 2002. Induction and membership in the HRC Saint Louis Chapter (SAMC) is a reward for noncommissioned officers (NCOs) whose leadership achievements and performance merit special recognition and who have contributed significantly to the development of a professional NCO corps and a combat ready Army. Members exemplify leadership characterized by personal concern for the needs, training, development, welfare of soldiers, and concern for families of soldiers. All HRC Saint Louis active Army component, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard NCOs in the rank corporal through sergeant first class are eligible to compete for membership in the HRC Saint Louis SAMC Chapter. The HRC Saint Louis CSM may , at his discretion, allow tenant units located within the Federal Records Center to be eligible to compete for membership in the HRC Saint Louis SAMC / DRMEW. |
